CBD and Coffee: Name a better duo

Women holding CBD Coffee

Chalkboard signs on sidewalks and menus everywhere are popping up with two words: CBD and Coffee.  Just when we thought coffee alone was the perfect way to kick start our days, a genius came up with the idea of mixing CBD into it. Who would’ve thought that after all this time, its been missing its perfect partner.

What is CBD coffee?

Approximately 83% of adults drink coffee everyday- contributing to the rise of the coffee shop in the last few decades. Coffee is versatile, and there are infinite ways to customize it: high calorie creams, sweeteners, syrups, milks- none of which are adding anything but empty calories. Which begs the question: why not add something that has potential benefits like CBD for a good old one-two punch?

CBD coffee is a rapidly growing segment of the CBD market. Some companies infuse CBD directly into the coffee beans, grind them, and package them for sale. Baristas can brew them in a coffee shop, or you can enjoy it from the comfort of your home. We’ve even started to see CBD Coffee K-cups.

A simpler way to get your CBD in your coffee is to just add it from your oil tincture. If you’ve got a clean CBD oil product with no additives or fillers, the simple ingredients like coconut oil, essential oil flavoring, and CBD will pair well with coffee. Coffee, meet CBD.

Why drink CBD coffee?

If you’re like us, you enjoy and look forward to the taste of a good cup of coffee. But that’s not the only reason we drink it daily, we drink it because it wakes us up and keeps us alert. The caffeine enters the bloodstream and gives us all the feels. On a molecular level, caffeine resembles adenosine.

Adenosine is a compound that binds to its respective receptors. Coffee doesn’t actually work by waking us up, the caffeine just prohibits adenosine from making us fall asleep.

While it gives us that boost that we’re looking for, it also causes a slump when it wears. From mood swings, to jitters, the comedown from caffeine can have you looking for more just to bounce back. Adding CBD to your coffee can help calm those effects and neutralize the comedown.

Similar to your cup of coffee, CBD also has properties that will give you the alertness and focus to help you get your day started off on the right foot. The two work together for that morning boost we’re all looking for.

How much CBD should I put in my coffee?

If you’re at a coffee shop that sells CBD coffee, ask them how many mg of CBD are in a serving of their coffee. Typically, it will fall within the 5-10mg range. This low dose is a good starting point to see how your body reacts as a first-time drinker of CBD.

If you’re brewing your own CBD infused coffee, it could be a little harder to estimate how much CBD is in each cup because of the variables that go into making a cup. The easiest way to know how much is in your coffee is to use the oil tincture to control exactly the amount you want.

The dosage in your coffee follows the same dosage recommendations of using it alone. Start low at 10mg and increase as your tolerance allows it. For reference, we find most women usually find their sweet spot at around 20-30mg a day. Be patient and keep experimenting- you’ll be thankful that you didn’t give up! As a general tip- allow your coffee to cool for a moment (to avoid damaging the cannabinoids), then add your oil to it and stir until totally integrated. If the carrier oil rises to the top, don’t worry, it’s where all the goodness lies.

What’s CBD in my coffee taste like?

Well, it tastes like, coffee. Unflavored CBD oil has an earthy flavor making it a great compliment to the taste of coffee. If you use a flavored CBD oil, you can play with different recipes and liven up your daily cup that way.

Check out some of our favorite recipes below using our organic lime oil tinctures. Lime and coffee might seem like a strange combo – but stay with us here, it works amazingly well. The acidity in the citrus helps to neutralize and take the “bite” out of the coffee. The result is an ultra smooth taste you’ll thank us for.
